Vic: Southern Cross site to get $300 million redevelopment
MELBOURNE, Jan 18 AAP - The site of a Melbourne hotel made famous when the Beatles
waved from its balcony to a frenzied crowd of fans is set for a $300 million redevelopment.
The Southern Cross Hotel, which hosted the fab four in 1964, was demolished six years
ago and its shell has remained on the prime city site since.
Acting premier John Thwaites today announced the site at the corner of Bourke and Exhibition
Streets would be redeveloped into a 40-storey office tower and 306-room residential hotel.
